Sync iCloud Calendar with Android using OneCal!
Sign up for OneCal for free to automatically sync your iCloud calendar across all Android devices.
In our previous articles, we discussed methods of syncing Google Calendar with Android and syncing Outlook with Android and found out that the methods were straightforward and had few shortcomings.
When syncing iCloud Calendar to Android, things are not that simple, as there is no official iCloud app on the Play Store that allows you to connect your iCloud account. Outlook and Google offer native Android apps, allowing you to connect your account seamlessly and view your calendars.
What’s worse is that the default Android Calendar app doesn’t support connecting your iCloud account directly, similar to connecting Outlook or Google accounts.
Based on our research, there are three ways to sync iCloud Calendar with Android:
- View iCloud Calendar events on Android by adding iCloud.com to your Android home screen.
- Leverage Google Calendar or Outlook to sync iCloud Calendar with Android
- Sync iCloud Calendar to Android by using a third-party Android App
Let’s explain each method alongside the benefits and drawbacks.
View iCloud Calendar events on Android by adding iCloud.com to your Android home screen
The first method to sync iCloud Calendar with Android is by simply adding the icloud.com website to your Android home screen.
This makes it easier for you to access the icloud.com website, but ultimately, you’ll still be opening your iCloud calendar on your web app (such as Google Chrome, etc). Basically, this is the same as opening icloud.com on your browser, but with fewer steps.
To add iCloud.com to your Android homepage, please follow these steps:
- Visit icloud.com using your preferred browser: For this example, we’ll use a Samsung phone and Google Chrome browser.
- Click ‘Sign In’: The ‘Sign In’ button should be located in the middle of the screen. By clicking it, you’re taken to the login page, where you can enter your iCloud credentials. Note that this page is the official iCloud page.
- Enter your username and password: To sign in to your iCloud account, you have to enter your username first, then Apple prompts you to either log in with a password or use an Apple Device.
- Visit https://www.icloud.com/calendar/: This page allows you to view and manage your iCloud calendar on the web. We’ll add this page to our Android home screen.
- Click the three dots icon (⋮) at the top right of the page: The three dots icon is part of the Google Chrome page, allowing you to take actions on that page.
- Click ‘Add to Home Screen’: We can add the icloud.com page to our Android home screen so we can easily open it at any time.
- Give the app a name and click ‘Install’: You can name the icloud.com app that will be placed on your Android home screen so you can better identify it. After naming it, click Install.
- iCloud Calendar is on your home screen: You should see the iCloud app on your Android home screen, with the name you set on state 6.
By clicking the iCloud app on your home screen, you should be able to see and manage your iCloud events from your Android phone.
Note that the experience is not comparable to using a native Android app, as we’re simply adding the iCloud Calendar web page to the home screen as a shortcut to opening the web browser each time we want to see our iCloud Calendar.
Leverage Google Calendar or Outlook to sync iCloud Calendar with Android
A workaround for syncing your iCloud Calendar to Android is to leverage the native Android Calendar app's support for Google Calendar and Outlook.
We’ll leverage OneCal to sync iCloud with Google Calendar, then sync Google Calendar with the default Calendar App.
To sync iCloud Calendar with Android through Google Calendar or Outlook, follow these steps:
- Sign up for a OneCal Account: You can sign up for OneCal for free, and no credit card is needed so that you can sync your iCloud with Google Calendar or Outlook.
- Sync iCloud with Google Calendar or Outlook: This method works by syncing either iCloud with Google Calendar or Outlook. You can sync iCloud with the provider you already have an account with. If you already have a Google account, you can sync iCloud with Google Calendar.
Please follow the sync iCloud Calendar to Google Calendar or sync iCloud Calendar with Outlook according to your case. - Connect Google Calendar or Outlook to your Android device: After having synced iCloud with Google Calendar or Outlook, you have to add one of them to your Android phone.
If you have synced iCloud with Google Calendar, please follow the instructions on how to sync Google Calendar with Android. Otherwise, please follow the how to sync Outlook with Android guide.
After connecting Google Calendar or Outlook to your Android device (depending on your choice), you can see all your iCloud events on your Android Calendar.
This method is not ideal, as it requires you to sync your iCloud calendar with Google Calendar or Outlook, but has some benefits:
- Native Calendar view: You’re using a native calendar app to view your iCloud account on your Android device, and the user experience is better compared to adding iCloud.com to the home screen.
- The syncs are real-time: OneCal will sync your iCloud calendar with Google Calendar or Outlook in real-time, so you won’t have to worry about any discrepancies between your devices.
Sync iCloud Calendar to Android by using a third-party Android App
Another way to use iCloud Calendar in Android is to use a third-party Android App that supports iCloud. To see a list of Android apps that support iCloud, please follow these steps:
- Open Play Store
- Search ‘iCloud Calendar’: After searching ‘iCloud Calendar’ on the search box, you should be able to see a list of Android apps that support iCloud. You can choose any of them and test them out to see if they’re a good fit and if you like the user experience they offer.
